What is COOL?

What is COOL? Who gets to decide?

On 4/16 mighty CNET declared arbitrarily that they get to decide what’s cool. This royally pissed me off, but after re-thinking it. Why not! If not CNET then who has the right? Well that depends. First you have to be pretty cool yourself to rank. You can’t have another agenda or motive like generating revenue, in other words no cool whores. You can’t be a shill for others meaning you can’t have sold it or marketed it away.

Hollywood sold us The Fonz, Manard G. Krebs, and Kookie with his comb as cool, but in my hood they were just jokes.

Like Tower of Power once sang. What is hip? Tell me, tell me,  if you think you know. THIS POST IS MEANT TO STIMULATE A CONVERSATION! PLEASE JOIN IN.

The COOL HUNTER

The Cool Hunter

The Cool Hunter

One of my greatest passions these days is hopping online and digging up COOL STUFF. My task is made easier when there are good sites out there that are focused on similar tasks and interests. One of these is called The Cool Hunter. Hip design shows up in many  products and areas of TCH. The Cool Hunter really does do a good job of covering many of the places and ways that coolness shows up this includes products, architecture, culture and product design. I once needed to subscribe to a whole s#%tload of magazines in order to locate a few articles that satisfied my need. Now I just dial up The Cool Hunter and get my fix. It usually takes a little tunneling, but it is there! So is cool news, gadgets, fashion, music, art and much more. Set aside a few hours out of your sparetime to give the site a good going over.

Three new MacBook Pros:

On 2/24 Apple  rounded out their roster of laptop products by refreshing the line that started it all and changed the face of computing. Ever since then, the mobile computer industry has been attempting to catch up and in some cases even leapfrog past Apple, but even the mighty Microsoft found this a massive challenge. Well, now Apple has complimented their MacBook AIR series of laptops with a cool mix of three new MacBook Pros 1.) a 13-inch MacBook Pro 2.) a 15-inch MacBook Pro and finally, 3.) a new 17-inch MacBook Pro. See the BLOG link above for more info, or visit apple.com for full specs or to order.

New Volkswagen XL1

Prototype Volkswagen XL1

Talk about cool! Just take a look at the picture of the prototype Volkswagen XL1 that is “to-die-for”. The car not the picture. Volkswagen has set their design sights on creating a street-worthy production car with fuel consumption of around 235 mpg.

It seems VW is taking steps away from the still hot selling retro looking VW Bug and moving towards the sleek looking futuristic desgn of the VW XL1. Of course, VW probably wait for a better economy to release it, but I can see VW seeding a few of them out here to the rich and super spoiled in an effort to drum up pent-up demand and  latent interest. Attention VW: I’ll have one, if you please!
