Apple’s Nano has witnessed an unexpected competitor to the iPod Nano show up in the form of the Pebble Watch, a Kickstarter project. I am surprised that neither Google nor facebook or Twitter has snapped up Pebble.
Going after Pebble is a clear direction for Apple’s iPod Nano team. Nano has a few advantages 1) Companies are already making excellent watchbands and other accessories fot the Nano.
Whats left for Appleto do is to Apple can miniturize the browsing and app experience and juice up the devices overall capacity plus they can add Bluetooth to allow connecting with an iPhone, keyboard or laptop.
Finanly Apple must let app Nano and app developers decide what data to display. If they do it right tons of iPhone and Mac users will skip buying traditional watches and go and buy a Nano, just one more Apple product they didn’t think they needed but that fits comfortably in their digital lives.
Ultimately I would hope they could integrate the iPhone into the Nano form factor. Dick Tracy watch finally accomplished!
On second thought It would be pretty shady for Apple to “borrow” some small company’s idea, but after all isn’t that what Pebble did to Apple in the first place. So is turn about fair play?
9/12/12 ADDENDUM: Apple just announced that they are changing the Apple Nano to more resemble the larger/older form factor thus the great Nano watch concept is now left to previous generation Nano owners unless Apple intends to spit out a specific Apple iPod watch product antytime soon. This development should make the Pebble Watch folks and Nano fans and owners extremely estatic (at least for the time being)
