Getting throttled Due to Cloud

Going to the cloud can bring on a significant penalty. Getting throttled by your broadband provider. Backing up a multiple Terabyte drive will surely get you flagged and subject to punative actions. The result will kill your productivity and ability to get work done as before when all of your data resided internally and close at hand. OUCH!
A process that once took 5 minutes of sorting my emails that I used to sail right along has become tedious (30+ minutes) and causes multiple stalls that necessitate multiple restarts or refreshes.
Don’t give me that “innovation and advances come at a cost” bullshit, the costs should not cripple users or throw dirt in the game!
It seems like Jenga ora “house of cards or “Cascade of Dominoes” delicately balanced ready to collapse when one is removed or adjusted.

Web 2.0: End of a Trend?

What the heck happened? One minute Web 2.0 was the hot topic then suddenly it was buzzword poison. How could it go so quickly from the roadmap to the future to forgotten term?

It is certainly strange how fleeting our attention is these days. We went from Web 2.0 to Social Media in a nod.

A couple of probing questions come to mind.

  1. Has anything really changed?
  2. When caused the shift?
  3. What’s next/ and will it also come so swiftly and unhearalded?
  4. Is this disruption at work?

Well the one thing we know for certain is that everything must change so we should”nt tie orselves to firmly to any one term or trend. This caneffect our company, product and domain name decisions and even our career choices.

Flood of Smartphones & Tablets

MWC 2012

Mobile World Congress 2012

Thanks largely due in part to the ocassion of the Mobile World Congress held over in Spain we can certainly expect in the next few weeks and througout the year to see a literal flood of new mobile devices each hoping against hope to capture lightning in a bottle and a place in our budgets.

Every iPhone/Smartphone and iPad/tablet manufacturer will be ever busy touting the amazing benefits and suppossed advantages their device brings to our mobile computing experience and online lives. Much of this will of course be overblown hype. Some of it will be vaporware about products that will never reach the shelves. A select few will be actual released products that will bitterly vie for our purchasing decisions and loyalty.

How can we navigate through the hype? How exactly are we to wisely judge which exactly devices we will choose?

  1. By the performance specs?
  2. By the coolest looking and feeling
  3. The most and best apps
  4. The better options and acceessories?
  5. The better connectivity and bandwidth?
  6. Best pricing and deals?
  7. Company support policies?
  8. Positive reviews and feedback of knowlegbale and trusted friends

There are certainly a whole lot of essential variables to consider in chosing a new phone or upgrading from an older unit.

iPad 3 Rumors Abound

It seems we are close to the next version of the industry leading Apple iPad 3.

Having created the category Apple is having to re-establish authority. Amazon has jumped in the game and there are tons of also-ran players none really much of a threat to iPad dominance.

This means Apple has a chance to distance themselves from competition by introducing a stellar and truly innovative device.

I’m Back from Break!

Over the past month or so I have been deep in the process of moving my residence and business to a different city though not so very far away (Just across the Bay).

As I am somewhat disabled and in recovery from stroke it has been a true trial and definately much harder than I remember when I was much more capable. But I didn’t let any of that stop me!

Thanks to kind friends and loving family I have had help and inspiration throughout the process.  As it nears competion I can once again begin to take some time to work on The Coolness Factor. Thanks also go to you my faithful readers for hanging in here with me.

So where are we? Well now that we are well past the excitement of CES and Macworld 2012 there is so much to cover and discuss. Let me roll up my sleeves and get busy!
