Day December 20, 2011

iPhone 5 Rumor Roundup:

Its that time of the year that the Android World will debut a slew of new phones and related services in an attempt to unseat Apple’s hold on the market.

Pundits will hype stats that state that Android has already won the battle. Others will crow about the features of phones that probably won’t make it to the marketplace  till December 2012, if ever.
The following is really just a short list that we absolutely are certain will expand in the next few months in light of new competitive products arriving on the scene real soon (at CES 2012).

iPhone 5 Rumor list:
  1. It will have a docking unit
  2. A bigger screen with twice the resolution of the iPhone 4
  3. It will come in at a lower price than previous iPhones
  4. 4″ screen despite Jobs’ admonition
  5. Casing will have flat edges rather than teardrop tapering
  6. Aluminium casing similar to iPod Touch
  7. Summer 2012 launch
  8. A thicker form factor
  9. Higher resolution HD screen
  10. LTE compatibility
  11. Increased screen size from 3.5” to 4”
  12. A docking accessory may be in the works
  13. Dynamic voice command enhancements to Siri
  14. Significant improvements and features to iOS 5 operating system
  15. Partnerships with Facebook and others
  16. Advanced integrated iCloud services
  17. iPhone Pricing reduced to compete with lower priced competitors

Warning:

None, or at least very few of these rumors have been confirmed and they are simply rumors and as such should be accepted with a huge grain of salt.

We just don’t know!

Fringe Companies in 2012

Big companies like Apple, Microsoft, Motorola, Samsung and Google have a good idea where their future rests, but what about the thousands upon thousands of smaller marginal companies that operate just outside hot, glitzy, and trendy niches and market segments? These are the bedrock suppliers that make many of the essential external and add-on accessory products that enhance or perfect the capabilities of the dearly acquired computers and mobile devices we own, love and use.

How are these players making it these days? If they are smart and agile they should have their ears to the ground and stay busy studying the latest innovative technologies for openings and sizable gaps representing openings and opportunities to keep their development labs working on products that address those gaps and lead to profitability and sustainability.

Examples:

These are only a few of the worthy cable, hard disc, monitor, bag and case makers now joined in competition for hard fought consumer dollars by a great many newly hot app builders.

It would be fortunate if these two segments came together to innovate and develop products missing from our current range of selections. After all the direction og our times is making everything intelligent by embedding technology into things that do useful stuff.

ARCHOS ARNOVA INTERNETRADIO + TV

As a 20-year veteran Radio Broadcaster I am and remain quite intrigued by Archos Arnova multimedia radio and to put it simply, really want one!

Understand right off, the Archos Arnova is no ordinary radio (whatever that means), Archos’ Arnova is “Super Radio”. It packs a 3.5-inch touchscreen (320×240) display in its center and provides users with the ability to connect to over 12,000 streaming radio stations and more than 1,500 “web TV” channels. That ain’t shabby!

The Archos Arnova Radio supports 2GB of internal storage easily expandable by SD cards and Arnova supports superb playback from a wide range of audio file types including: MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, AVI, MP4 and FLV.

Regarding connectivity the Archos Arnova Radio has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and even contains a built in alarm clock.

As yet we have no firm pricing information nor notice of worldwide availability but we are working on digging that up. Amazon.co.UK has it listed but their site states it is “Currently unavailable”. Damn, Damn, Damn!

Amazon.com (USA) has it listed but it is a different more tablet styled model with TV features and even then is listed as Temporarily out of stock”. In the Holiday shopping season, what’s up with that?
